How to Find Shoes

One question the ShooFairy always gets asked is: "How do I find the right shoe?"

The answer is simple and in one word: Nordstrom. This is not a paid endorsement, though the ShooFairy wishes it were. If you want a shoe education, do not pass go, do not collect $200 (though you could spend it there, easily), just go to Nordstrom. You will be amazed. And my friend Lisa has alerted me to their Fall Sale which starts Friday, July 18th.

The ShooFairy once had a hankering for lime green shoes, and the saleslady came back with no less than 15 pairs of all styles and shapes. Sadly, only one pair was purchased.

Oh, and the other part about how to find good shoes: make sure they are comfortable, even and especially the heels.

Shoos in Sex and the City

Well, the ShooFairy can hardly resist the movie. Shoos and urban walking -- it may seem an oxymoron, but then the ShooFairy is no Carrie Bradshaw. The movie was pretty darn good and comes recommended for the outfits and shoos. And is pretty romantic as well. There was nary a dry eye in the movie hall. There were some observations that are worth exploring:

  1. Why does Carrie wear the same belt through several outfits?
  2. While there are some amazing shoes, such as Miranda's mary janes, why do they make multiple appearances? Are there not enough fabulous shoes to go around?
  3. Does Big should know that for purposes of proposing matrimony that Monolos also come be-jeweled, and not just be-feathered?
  4. How cool is it to get married in a library?
In the coming weeks, this and many more important ponderables will be explored here. Your thoughts are always welcome.

Shoos for School Kids

Believe it or not, many children who go to school don't have homes. They don't have access to new shoes, either. My New Red Shoes provides shoes and clothing for 1,500 homeless children in the San Francisco area. You can support them through donations and through events. They have an upcoming 5K walk on Sunday, April 27th, 2008, in Mountain View, California. Grant a child a wish and let them start their new school year with pride.

Shoos in the Nyoos: Shoo Diplomacy

There has been a lot of virtual spilled ink over Madame Sarkozy (aka Carla Bruni) and the French First Couple's visit to the -- ahem, ahem, ahem -- Elizabeth Regina II's homeland: the small island known as the United Kingdom. What caught the Shoo Fairy's attention was the focus on Ms. Bruni's shoes. You see, Monsieur Sarkozy, in good Napoleanic tradition, differs in height from his tres jolie Madame.

In order to minimize the effect of the height differential, in what is being called shoe diplomacy, the good Madame wore super-flat flat shoes, and le Monsieur wore chunky heels. All of it was dutifully recorded by the crack media and photographers who were taking a break from covering the real news and taking pictures of chaussures royales instead. You can see the photos of the international shoe saga that unfolded for yourself.
